Thanks to the rad people over at MI Magazine, I got to attend the last date of Wireless Festival a couple weeks ago. It’s a non-camping festival set over a weekend in Finsbury Park (great if you’re a Londoner) with mainly pop, hip hop & RnB music – you guys know I’m into my metal, but I’m also a huge Minaj fan, so just had to go!
We started off the day with a set from Charlie XCX, where I was swooning over the set design and her zebra clad girl band (pussy power!) and we decided to stay around the main stage all day, as it had more acts that we knew. However, we did have a wander round when August Alsina took to the stage, as I really couldn’t deal with how sexist/objectifying the lyrics/general performance was – definitely the downfall of the genre – soz August!
Despite Clean Bandit’s soul destroying Cortana ad *shudders*, I do know some of their material, and was pretty impressed by their set – they have guest singers at their shows and I can’t find her name, but the girl they performed with had some serious pipes on her! Then along came Jessie J, also with a killer voice, she hit every note and got everyone singing along to her hits.
Unfortunately Nicki Minaj was held up in traffic, so the main stage was empty for 2 hours as she missed her slot – as you can imagine, I was kinda gutted! There was a DJ set for a while until David Guetta came on with his fireworks and such – he got the party going and the crowd dancing, but the music patterns were all the same, got a little repetitive! However, in the last 30 minutes, Minaj burst on stage with an all-killer, no-filler set, she’s seriously incredible live and ended Wireless weekend with a bang – she definitely deserved headliner spot over Guetta!
All-in-all I had an awesome time despite the slight timing issues, and definitely think I need to see Nicki again soon – will be keeping an eye on her tour dates! A huge thank you to MI Magazine for sending me along, make sure you check out their site for the latest on fashion, beauty, lifestyle and more, and read my feature here!
Did any of you guys go to Wireless? What were your highlights? The next festival I’m at is Latitude, so also let me know if any of you are going!
