Pub quizzes I’m bad at. I don’t know a lot about a lot. But when I do know something, I know it inside out. This goes for LGBT cinema. There aren’t many gay movies I haven’t watched and I have an opinion on all of them.
The BFI Flare festival finished this weekend and featured a few superb titles that I’ve been a fan of for years including ‘Were the World Mine’, ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’ and ‘Strangers on a Train’. There’ve also been some newer movies in Flare’s programme that have excited the whole of the film community, including Franco’s latest fanciful excursion into gaydom, ‘I Am Michael’, and the fantastic feel-good story ‘Pride’.
If you missed out on Flare, check out my recommendations here for LGBT films and where to start. These films focus mainly on gay and bisexual men with some trans* stories, but they’re all brilliant features that I’ve fallen in love with.
In no particular order…
