Hipster Barbie or as her instagram handle goes @socalitybarbie is one globetrotting gal about town. No longer is she interested in her bright pink jeep, nor her dalliance with that basic ass Ken.
These days she’s living the ‘Authentic’ life, taking super hipster VSCO Cam shots of her time up a mountain, or dangling her tanned pins over a sparkiling blue pool. Gone are her stilettos, you are more likely to see Socality Barbie barefoot in a beanie.
She’s been a little under the radar just going about her authentic lifestyle, with only 5000 followers a week ago. But as we all know it only takes a bit of good press and you are suddenly The Blonde Salad.
Thanks to a spread in Wired magazine and a feature in the holy grail of fashion press Vogue, she’s now amassed almost 600k followers in one weekend.
Not bad Barbie. Not bad.
Popularity contests suck and let’s face it Instgram is the worldwide popularity contest some of us would pull a Carrie to win. So having (the proverbial) Barbie doll beat you again has gotta hurt a little right?
Well it would if it wasn’t for the creator of @SocalityBarbie’s genius use of our most iconic doll to highlight just how rediculous we are. The photographer (who prefers to remain anonymous) from Portland Oragon totally hits the nail on the head with hipster Barbie. The girl forever out of our realistic reach.
Could she Be anymore authentic?
Socality Barbie is the monster in our smartphones telling us the lighting on our morning coffee isn’t quite right so we might as well not have bothered. She’s the bikini body perfect eco-warrior with no financial responsibilities and a year round tan. Her hair is really that length and never seems to snap off despite endless flipping from blonde to brunette.
But overall what @SocalityBarbie is, is a reminder that she about as ‘authentic’ as these women who’s posts you religiously follow. Do they really live like that? Probably true. Did they take 75 pictures of their legs an do a little photoshop before posting? Also probably true!
Thank you @SocalityBarbie for keeping us real with your #authenticlyfe.
