Meet Danielle Berstein, the fashion blogger behind weworewhat.com that notoriously claims that she charges $15,000 for posting a photo on her instagram. She’s always been meticulous in her style and aesthetic and this attention to detail is what made her successful. Regardless of the collaboration opportunity, Danielle only works with brands which fit into her carefully curated style, which makes her even more aspirational to brands and trustworthy to her readers which love her style selection and advice.
So who better to follow during NYFW than this New Yorker fashionista? We have analysed all of Danielle Bernstein’s looks and have a couple of conclusions to make with regard to her style.
Here they are…
She wears basics with attitude
We all know that having an elementary selection of basics in your wardrobe is a good start for starting and growing your style. But where is the borderline between boring and basic? Something that Danielle Bernstein does exceptionally well is making basics exciting with details like fishnet stockings and oversized print bombers.
2. Mixing trends
What we regularly see in the fashion world is a lot of trend segmentation- either you are wearing 80s or 90s- either you are feminine or androgynous- people that wear one trend head to toe. Danielle Bernstein has taken fashion to the next level by combining 2 trends into one, like wearing a hoodie and a blazer, tucking the hoodie in her jeans and then pairing the vintage jeans with ultra feminine glitter shoes. She teaches you to feel more confident you feel and mix trends together .
3. The rockstar look always works
There is something about wearing a vintage black band T shirt a faux fur jacket and big shades that makes you stand out from the crowd. It must be our hidden desire to be and live the life of the rockstar. If you can’t be a rockstar, at least dress like one. That’s what Danielle Bernstein does and it made her a fashion rockstar.
4. Galvanising red
In terms of color, we advise that you invest in red clothing. As red is already a strong color the key is in choosing items that are rather contradictory and pairing them together in a monochrome tone. We like how Danielle wears vinyl red trousers (huge trend atm) with an oversized Vetements sweatshirt- which adds a bit of attitude to the vinyl. Also we like to add that this look proves to be a great example of how vinyl should be worn- with oversized sweaters.
5. Making boring colors and clothes exciting
In this look Danielle finds a way to make boring brown into an exciting and surprisingly feminine look. The oversized shirt and corset makes the outfit very romantic and feminine while the high waist capri trousers add attitude and length to her body. It’s a recycled early 20th century for the 21st century.
6. A hipster look that is not cliché
We have all been exposed to the hipster community and their fashion and we can safely conclude that it has become a bit ‘been there, seen that’. Danielle is very much a hipster here, with her beanie hat, the shades and the rolled up jeans, but again it’s all about balance and a careful mix of clothes which make or break a hipster look- in this case the 40s vintage looking ancle boots and the 50s style jacket.
