@themodelsmarket – Living in a world of fast fashion and ever changing trends it gets hard to keep up with the new and latest; but thanks to editors, buyers, and stylists we can stay in the loop. Good thing we can keep a note of what’s to come and even start our personal shopping list ahead of time. So what’s the new and latest? The basket bag; it is truly the summer ‘it’ bag and I (probably you too) have seen it everywhere. I have quickly become obsessed with the variety of shapes and sizes designers are treating us with. The more amazing basket bags I see the more I can’t decide on where to splurge; or if I even need to. Guess what? You probably already own a basket bag. Think about it, look around your home, (or your moms) does anything pop out? As I was talking with my mom over breakfast she happened to look over and point at a basket she uses for decor. How exciting, I already have a basket bag. Now, of course it is not intended to use as a bag but this is where the creative part comes in. This is the part I get to make you a part of my crazy brain. Are you ready?
Let’s re-purpose this decor piece into the summer ‘it’ bag that you will wear all season long. First, you need a basket. Then, you need to find something that will help to keep all your essentials inside the basket, I opted for a scarf. Follow along with me; go grab an open ended long scarf. We are going to weave the scarf through the basket to create a lining that is 1) functional and 2) adds a sense of uniqueness because it’s your scarf…the way you weave it. Follow along with the photos below and when you are finished you should have something like this:
I chose this scarf to re-purpose my summer ‘it’ bag because well, the color is SO summer and also if you browse through my Instagram you will see this scarf as a top. YES you heard it right, this girl is all about scarfs, I pretty much find a way to incorporate them anywhere. Check out this blog post to see that scarf top in action. Since we are talking about styling I wanted to share how I decided to style the basket bag.
I have been drawn to mixing fashion styles and this look was no exception. Let’s try to fit in a category that’s called something like “chic-street-casual”. I paired this floral top (which is actually a pleated skirt) with the bag to bring that chic essence to the look. Then I brought in these boyfriend style jeans to mix in some street funk and some sneakers to bring in the casual vibe. Voila!
My favorite part about being a creative soul is being able to connect with others to bring out their creative minds. On that note I hope I have inspired you to try out this basket bag project and implement it with your personal style.
